5th Element Fashion Show 12/1
Fast fashion is a term used to describe the clothing industry's business model of replicating recent catwalk trends and high-fashion designs, mass-producing them at a low cost, and bringing them to retail stores quickly, while demand is at its highest.
The Drawing Boards
To portray the 21st century and the nature of our current fashion trends, I chose neutral colored items that I previously owned that align to the general style our generation upholds in the current day. My outfit with its display of earthy-tones shows how clothing is inspired by the fabric our earth but consequently damages it from humanity's unethical practices. The practice of mass production, unpaid labor, and pollution unveils the true being of name-brand fashion and how businesses don't care about innovation, creativity, or even fashion, they care about money and manipulation. I chose to wear Zara, Pacsun, and Ugg which are all popular brands who do not acknowledge the damages of the manufacturing of their clothing. These brands from a consumer standpoint make the majority of their income off the cult-following of our population.
My makeup is inspired by "The Fifth Element" with my attempt at a high-fashion, avant garde look to show that we are the future. We have the ability to choose where we want to invest our money to better the environment while taking into consideration our self-interests, such as, fashion. Realizing that mankind is responsible for the damage inflicted to our earth is important and necessary to implement sustainable fashion as the new norm of shopping and leave overconsumption in the past.
